I don't know if this is the correct section to post this, if it's not you can move it to where ever it's appropriate. Anyway, i can't do a single pull up nor chin up. At the gym i can bench press 170 lbs, do those pulley machines where you pull the bar down over your head for around 90 lbs. I can do arm curls 40 lbs. But i can't do a single pull up or chin up. Any tips on how to improve? Edited by Zoom, Mar 20 2016, 11:48 PM.

ive been told that working on the eccentric part of the movement, lowering your body, is the best way to build up to it. so basically you cheat and just jump or use something to stand on to get you to the top position, and then you work on lowering yourself with control |

Despite being able to bench 260 lbs (roughly my bodyweight give or take a few pounds) I can't do one either. |

A good portion of it is technique, but you do need the proper strength. |

What I did was just keep trying on back day. I couldn't even do one at first but now I can do like 20 at a time. |

I can't do very many. Maybe like 20, but I haven't gauged myself because I'm not interested in this type of exercise. |

I do 3 sets of 10 pull ups at the beginning of every back workout. They're negative(come down slow) reps though. Helps to increase time under tension You're pulling your body weight. Don't expect it to be easy if you weigh a lot. One of my friends who weighs 240 pounds can bench 315 or maybe 305 for five reps but he can't do a pull up Me on the other hand, I only weigh 140 pounds lol. I haven't tried but if I were to put a 50 pound dumbbell between legs I probably wouldn't be able to do it Chin ups I'm not sure. I know I can do at least 10 slow concentrated reps at the end of my back and bicep work out Edited by Ssj3vegito96, Mar 21 2016, 12:44 AM.

I've only tried a handful of times, but I couldn't do more than thirteen. I'm light, so I didn't have much to lift, and I still couldn't do very many. |

I used to not be able to do any, but after doing stronglifts for a few months I can actually do about 6 or 7 in one go. |

Pull ups are difficult. I mean you have to move all of your bodyweight . In my prime i could do about 40-45 in a row. I was about 160 lbs. You have to practice it. Or train your back. be careful however because there is different part of your back.. as for example rows train one kind of muscle and pull ups train another ...Both of the two situated on your back though. |
